Longest sound check
We can all agree this is peak BR right? This setlist is incredible
36:34 Laura is the face in the misty light.
This is an incredible document ! Jazz at its finest, New York at its finest
love you guys
I've been listening to AACM musicians since 1975 and have enjoyed multiple performances, each one a treasure. But to dial back fifty years with these restored performances, to be able to watch them over and over, is a gift. Great sound and stunning video. I was so young and they were so very far ahead of the curve.
Amazing !!
Hell yes!
Wow, that's a guy playing a Cora. Well ahead of his time.
I am awestruck by the recordings of these performances. It wasn't until '74-75 that the AACM came onto to my radar. All of these players are the greatest artists not just of their times, but all time. Thank you so much.
WOW!
Thank God they slowed down, started improvising and stopped playing on top of each other... as anyone can Blast Away- musician or not.....pretty "heady" stuff....
Great powerful performance, all top musicians under the guidance of band leader Muhal Richard Abrams, a pioneer & giants from the AACM.
anyone here at the cms 25 aniversary back then in upstate ny fellow jazzheads????????/
SOOOOOO HEAVY!!!!!!
She's fun
fantastic--what a gift!
Word indeed!!
wow!!!!.....just wow!!!
Calculated cacophony
Got straight to the music
awesome music--thanks
Now some footage of AIR would be really appreciated.
The horn line-up! Just freaking wow. Growing up on AACM music this is just the BEST.
Thank you very much. Only second video of Steve McCall I’ve seen. Incredible.
With Steve & Henry you have 2/3 of Air in this band, without Fred.
@brotzmannsax what about Leroy Jenkins wasn't he in that or not or that was Revolutionary Ensemble
@@jamesjazzy8040 The Revolutionary Ensemble consisted of Leroy Jenkins, Jerome Cooper and Sirone, another unbelievably great band who recorded a half dozen Lp's and a few later cds plus solo recordings all which I collect.
@@brotzmannsax yup...PS I met and walked with Peter Brotzmann walking out of the Vision Festival in NYC about 6 years ago... Dave Burrell was the artist in Residence
Steve was one of my teachers. Steve McCall was and is one of the architects of free jazz rhythm.
Maurice McIntyre!
never heard of Muhal Abrams before, reminds me a bit of art ensemble of chicago.
There's a reason for that: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_for_the_Advancement_of_Creative_Musicians
@@woodygould woah this is amazing, thank you for sharing.
AACM original who recorded so many great albums on labels like Delmark, Black Saint with so many great musicians, plus his work with the AEC and Creative Construction Company LP's are all worth checking out.
@@brotzmannsax thank you for telling me, also i love your pfp im a huge zappa fan.
Amazing!
Thanks again Jay…
50 years ago and these guys at a young age were already at a level of skill, creativity and performance that is hard to fathom. Amazing that Muhal Richard Abrams joins the AEC for this set. Also great photography. The chance to look into their faces and eyes here is such a gift. Thank you to all involved for sharing this historic footage.
Ca ressemble à quelque chose cette musique ??
Probably the best interview I've seen of hers - and that's not saying much. Lunch can be easily dismissed, she's simply a boring nihilist and has never offered an interesting alternative. As an idiot young person, I thought she was wild and dangerous, but looking back she was just a kid who had a shitty home life and never was able to work out her anger issues. Looks like she has marginally improved though, so progress?
Remember the double album way back - got the cd now
La ; Tout est dit ∆ 👏🏽
This group was a miracle! Sam Rivers is a genius; Jimmy Lyons is incredible. And Cecil and Andrew are amazing! I saw them without Rivers but with Sirone. Just amazing! I actually had the great pleasure of sitting in on a music notation class Rivers taught and met him a year after. He was a great person!
I was there. Shipping News, Victory ar Sea, Ninetynine, The 1985.
Bruh why did she kill a cat
Motherfuck. I wish they still played that first track live. That was very first song that made me fall in love with Melt Banana.
Piano? More like Piayeababyooowowza!
Lydia is iconic
Ra, you to this day and I've seen you many times in Chicago....You are truly of the the other and will return as an eternal being an inspiration to to the willing and endearing. As of no other.
Great Stuff. Love him since 1981. As a young man, 15 years old, I gave up learning much more jazz guitar - unfortunately. He was/still is sooooo unique 😉
Going to see the Sun-Ra-Arkestra headed by Marshall Allen this Sat. July 20, 2024. The West Kortright Centre, 49 West Kortright Church Road. East Meredith, NY . Beam me up!!!!!!
Sun Ra!
Seminal unit / beautiful find. & of course both challenging AND rewarding as is the Cecil relationship to music making model .
Alex, Buschi, Gerd, Michel, Manni, Mani - das war ja echt toll - besser als das 1978-Geklimper mit Jasper van't Hoff...
Who is the girl in band-T?
I got to see the Sun Ra Arkestra led by Marshall Allen after his passing, but I will tell you now… It was just like this. His spirit was there. It’s incredible how they are still carrying on. If you can see them… Definitely do it
Someone said, "She wants to be the center of attention like a raging hemeroid & tends to take up all the air in the room."
